She never sat down, for supper that night
“I ate earlier”, she told a white lie,
A glass of ice water, or two before bed,
A few nights a week, to get by,
He kept right on working, during lunch break,
Bill offered to share,he declined,
“No I’m not hungry”,he lied with a wink,
He was trying to, stretch a dime,
Little pinched faces, I watched in the store,
Following Mommy, or Dad,
They looked with, hungry longing,
at the offers, the grocery store had,
The look on their faces, is starry-eyed wonder,
you’d think it was, Christmas Day,
Just getting food, to take to the house,
should not thrill a child, this way,
You ask”Tell me what is it, that I can do”?
I’m glad that you’ve asked me, today,
Give to the local, Food Pantry’s needs,
and please don’t forget, to pray.
